Over the past few years I have been working on purging my home of products that contain harmful or questionable ingredients. It has been quite the undertaking. I have spent WAY too much time on the EWG website researching and discovering what to look out for before purchasing lotion, shampoo, household cleaners, etc.
I have paid particular attention to the products that I use on my body. Especially since my skin is incredibly sensitive and I have dealt with chronic eczema (on my face of all places!) for many years. Unfortunately the personal care industry doesn’t have much in the way of safety regulations when it comes to what can be put in our products. The US bans only 30 ingredients from use, and legislation has not been significantly changed since 1938!
In 2018 I came across Beautycounter. I have since transitioned most of my skincare and makeup to their products. They ban over 1,800 ingredients from their entire collection. Skincare safety is a fundamentally important issue and sadly it is often overlooked.
Later that year I decided to it up step and I enlisted to be a Beautycounter consultant. I want to help to educate people on the importance of safer beauty products. What we put in our bodies as well as what we put on our bodies plays a huge role in our overall health and well being.
If you want to learn more about what to look out for when making decisions about what to buy and what to avoid. I believe that the way you spend your dollar has the most influence if you want to make change. Support the things that are important to you.

ADVOCATING FOR A CLEANER FUTURE
The U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938. (Ahem—that’s over 80 years.) The European Union has banned or restricted 1,400 INGREDIENTS from personal care products. The United States has banned or restricted only 30—and to us, that’s simply not good enough. Changing the beauty industry means more than simply making safer products. We are proud to be the leading company advocating for more health-protective legislation across North America.
Over the past six years, Beautycounter has worked with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to ensure issues like ingredient review, labeling and recalls for products that cause harm are consumer safety priorities.
In addition, our Consultants host hundreds of District Meetings with Members of Congress advocating for updates to laws governing personal care products. Our collective voices are making a difference: more than 1,000 meetings, 10,000 calls and 100,000 emails later, more lawmakers than ever are placing cosmetics safety at the top of their legislative agendas.
